About this project:
The St. Luke’s Children’s Center in Oklahoma City recently completed an inspiring outdoor learning center at its Downtown campus, funded by the Oklahoma Project for School Readiness and private contributions. This new space is designed to enrich sensory-motor, cognitive-expressive, and social-emotional learning, offering a safe and engaging environment for children. Replacing an underutilized courtyard that featured outdated materials and potential hazards, the new center includes a creativity hut for puppetry and stage play, nature art boards, raised planting beds, a little library, and a hollow log tunnel. Natural elements like logs for climbing and seating complement music features and new furnishings, creating a warm, immersive learning space. The highlights of this project include a custom cedar shade structure over a raised sandbox and an impressive tree fort that weaves around a mature cypress, fostering adventure and imagination. This outdoor center reimagines play and learning, supporting child development in a beautifully natural setting.
