Natural fencing in a custom nature classroom offers way more than the wow-factor that comes from looking at the natural beauty - learning opportunities, sensory stimulation and connection to nature are just a few examples.

Many outdoor educators naturally think about wooden fencing when discussing ways to provide a safe and secure environment for students, but for a custom nature classroom, we like to think creatively and look at all options. Pictured below among natural wooden fencing examples is a stone nature wall. The wall was designed to separate two areas of the outdoor classroom and has four types of river rock enclosed within the wall. Just think about all of the ways you can teach from this: how many pieces of rock do you think are in that wall? What colors do you see? What is a layer, and how many layers can you find?
